Question 1 –
how would you
describe the current condition of the bus and community transport
sectors in Wales?
|
The bus and community Transport sectors in the Community of Rowen
where I live is horrendous. In the Short time we have
lived here (3 years) we have gone from having an Hourly bus service
in both directions to only having what seems to be a random
unusable timetimble which in the main only allows travel towards
Conwy and not LLanwrst.
The school bus service to Dyffryn Conwy has been completely
cancelled and it has meant my son has had to use taxi’s to
get to school, which is obviously a waste of government
monies.
|
Question 2 –
why do you think
the number of bus services and the number of bus passengers is
declining in Wales?
|
This maybe due to the lack of funding by the authorities to support
the buses and also private companies using this reason to
slash/stop altogether, the remaining bus service that we had in
place.
|
Question 3 –
what do you think is the social, economic and environmental impact
of recent changes in bus and community transport service
levels?
|
I believe that it has had a major effect on the social, economic
and environmental impact on the local communities. Older
people are unable to get out to do necessary shopping, see friends
etc and also younger people are not able to tranvel outside of
school hours for extra clubs, community activities and seeing
friends. It is isolating whole villages and communities that
will eventfully lead to these dying.
|
Question 4 –
what do you think
the Welsh Government should do to support bus and community
transport in Wales?
|
The welsh Government should be supporting the bus and community
transport completely and encouraging communities to grow and thrive
by allowing for adequate transportation links
|
Question 5
– what do you think Welsh local authorities should do to
support bus and community transport services?
|
Again, Support wholeheartedly the services required for ALL
communities. To me there seems at a local level to be an
Agenda so that some communities have hourly transport and some
within 1mile as the crow flies none. This may not seem like a great
distance but With the gradients condition of the roads, it is not
safe for people to walk at all times and some people could not
manage the route to the bus stop due to age, ill health or
disability. Therefore I believe this is discrimination and does not
comply with disabled access rights, Which contravenes their human
rights.
Will a small amount of common sense all communities could be
covered with reasonable services.
|
Question 6
– what do you think about proposals to devolve bus
registration powers to Wales? How should these be used?
|
I believe this would be a great idea, This would put the money
where it is needed most in rural communities. It would enable
the transport to be delivered to everyone and not just the ones
which benefit the current bus companies
|
Question 7
– please tell us whether you think further powers to regulate
the bus industry in Wales are required and why?
|
I think that the bus services should be public again and not run by
commercial greed companies
|
Question 8
– what other
action can be taken to ensure that bus and community transport
services meet the needs of people in Wales?
|
Common Sense should be used to serve all communities as it is
currently not fair how some communities have services above and
beyond what is needed, yet other have none.
